HIFU Facial for a Non-Invasive Facelift

**HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)** treatment for the face works as a non-invasive facelift. It tightens the skin, reduces wrinkles, shrinks pores, and targets the ‘V’ line formation and jowl lines. HIFU improves overall skin tone, pores, brightness, and elasticity.

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Without puncturing the skin's surface, this treatment can target various depths of the body's tissue for skin tightening, skin lifting, and body contouring. HIFU technology boosts new collagen production and collagen regeneration right at the source. Collagen allows the plumping of fine lines and wrinkles, and the tightening of the skin. It is sometimes called the "Lunchtime Face Lift" because the treatment is quick and very tolerable.

HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy to target the layers of skin just below the surface. The ultrasound energy causes the tissue to heat up rapidly.

Once the cells in the targeted area reach a certain temperature, they experience cellular damage. While this may seem counterintuitive, the damage actually stimulates the cells to produce more collagen — a protein that provides structure to the skin.

The increase in collagen results in tighter, firmer skin with fewer wrinkles. Since the high-frequency ultrasound beams are focused on a specific tissue site below the skin’s surface, there’s no damage to the upper layers of the skin and adjacent tissue.

HIFU may not be appropriate for everyone. In general, the procedure works best on people older than 30 with mild-to-moderate skin laxity.

People with photodamaged skin or a high degree of loose skin may need several treatments before seeing results.

Older people with more extensive photo-aging, severe skin laxity, or very saggy skin on the neck aren’t good candidates and may need surgery.

HIFU isn’t recommended for people with infections and open skin lesions at the target area, severe or cystic acne, and metallic implants in the treatment area.

How Does HIFU Work?
HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound
  • High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) directly delivers heat energy to targeted layers of the skin that can stimulate and renew the skin’s collagen. Consequently, improving the texture and reducing sagging of the skin.
  • This technique can be used on the face and body to achieve the results of a facelift or body lift without any invasive surgery or injections. It does not involve any creams, fillers, or toxins. It relies on your body's own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results.
  • HIFU works for people of all skin colors, in contrast to that of lasers and intense pulse lights.
  • HIFU energy penetrates much deeper than laser or RF energy, in an effort to effect superior tissue tightening and longevity of results by selectively targeting the SMAS layer.
  • These ultrasound waves penetrate deeper into the tissues without affecting the epidermis and focus at a single point in the adipose tissue and cause thermal injury, in turn, creating collagen production.

What Are the Treatment Areas?
HIFU treatment can be done on most parts of the body:
  • Improves overall skin elasticity, fine lines, wrinkles, texture and facial contour
  • Lifts and tightens cheeks, jowls, marionette lines and defines jawline
  • Uplifts brows, eyes and upper lip while softening fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces "Turkey Neck/Double Chin"
  • Can tighten skin on the hands, elbows, etc.
  • Breaks down stubborn fatty areas of the body (Buttocks, Abdominal, Arms, Thighs, Knees, etc)

FAQs

The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck treatment typically takes 90 minutes, while an eye treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes. Body treatments will take longer. Each individual and treatment area varies.
Comfort levels vary from person to person. There may be a sensation of tingling and/or warmth, which only lasts while ultrasound energy is being delivered. This discomfort is very brief and is a good sign the collagen-building process has begun. Treatments around the eyes and forehead and over any bony prominences tend to be more sensitive. People with thicker skin or more dense areas will tolerate HIFU well.
Some clients only need one treatment, however, most patients benefit from additional treatments depending on the degree of skin laxity and their individual collagen building process. Typically, to get to the desired goal, 2-3 treatments are suggested based on the severity. Since the skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help clients keep pace with the body's natural aging process. Mature skin may need a touch-up at the 1-year mark, while others may need a touch-up at the 2-year mark. Proper skincare and a healthy diet also play a role.
The skin might appear flushed at first, but this typically disappears within a few hours. Some clients may experience slight temporary swelling, tingling, or tenderness to the touch. There is little to no downtime. Other less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. Fortunately, these effects are temporary, and the areas of risk are blocked off during face mapping and avoided altogether. No permanent nerve injury has been reported to date.
